Sentinel™ Dry Suits - Wear, Repair & Care

Sentinel™ Dry Suits - Wear, Repair & Care

A dry suit isn’t just about staying dry—it’s about mobility, comfort, and performance. Mustang Survival’s Sentinel™ Series Dry Suits are engineered for demanding environments, ensuring operators can move freely, stay comfortable, and remain focused. But performance isn’t just about design—it’s also about fit, maintenance, and longevity.

By understanding how to wear, care for, and repair a dry suit, users can maximize its effectiveness and durability—ensuring reliable performance when it’s needed most. Read on to learn more.

What is Wearability?

One of the biggest factors in mission success and operator safety is what we call wearability—the ability to move freely, stay comfortable, and remain focused without being hindered by gear.

A dry suit with poor fit or restrictive design forces operators to fight their gear instead of focusing on the mission. Excess bulk, uncomfortable seals, or limited mobility can slow response times and create unnecessary distractions.

In high-stakes environments, equipment should enhance performance, not get in the way, so operators can stay focused on what matters most—their safety, their team, and their objective.

Areas That Affect Wearability

Seals
The long-tapered neoprene wrist seals reduce pressure on the wrists and allow multiple users to wear the same suit by simply sliding the seal slightly up the wrist for a better fit.

Socks
Our tube sock design adjusts to fit the operator's foot size, reducing bunching and improving comfort during extended wear.

Neck
The adjustable neck seal (CCS) allows the operator to manage ventilation until they enter the water. Once adjusted to the tension of a latex seal, it ensures the same level of water tightness while maintaining comfort.

Suspenders
The two-point suspender system and cinch belt distribute the weight of the suit between the shoulders and waist, similar to a farmer’s overalls. This design prevents the suit from bunching when squatting, keeping the operator comfortable without any unwanted pressure.

Knee & Elbow Pads
Integrated elbow and knee pads (along with knee tabs and a tailbone protector on the MSD624x suits) provide added comfort and protection from bumps and scrapes during operation.

How Mobility Based Sizing Works

Achieving unrestricted movement starts with the right fit. Mobility Based Sizing offers a semi-custom solution that reduces bulk and enhances range of motion—without the high cost or long wait of full customization.

Developed through more than two years of anthropometric research, range of motion testing, and user evaluations, this innovative sizing platform ensures that operators can move freely while staying protected in the harshest conditions. Built on data from 2,500 North American 3D body scans, it allows for precise sizing that fits the greatest number of individuals.

With 25 sizes available, including expanded options like short and tall variations, users can achieve a tailored fit straight off the shelf. This platform applies to all Sentinel™ Series Dry Suits.

Care & Decontamination

In addition to ensuring a perfect fit, proper care and maintenance are essential to maintaining the integrity of the dry suit. Dry suit decontamination testing verifies that cleaning methods effectively remove contaminants without compromising the suit’s durability. When washed in a non-agitating washer, the suit remains undamaged, preserving its performance. To confirm the effectiveness of these cleaning methods, suit samples were sent to the Suffield Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) lab for FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) scanning. This technique analyzes the unique spectral signatures of materials, confirming that the tested soaps and cleaning processes effectively remove contaminants. Ongoing evaluations of additional cleaning methods are expected to yield similar results.

Our dry suit material has also passed military-grade chemical exposure testing against jet fuel, diesel, and DEET. With over a decade of use in the swiftwater rescue industry, no health issues related to contamination exposure have been reported while wearing a breathable dry suit. The results demonstrate that the cleaning methods tested are both safe and effective, ensuring long-term protection for operators in hazardous environments.

Dry Suit Repairs

A critical factor in mission success is ensuring operators stay mission-ready even in the field. Our Rapid Repair Technology, developed with input from the Department of Homeland Security, allows for in-field repairs and component replacements, minimizing downtime during deployment.

For more extensive repairs, we operate factory-owned repair facilities in Spencer, West Virginia, and Vancouver, British Columbia, providing fast and reliable service. Many field repairs can be completed on-site, saving time and reducing costs.
